Equal Employment Opportunity Policy: UPDATED

Any American organization or business with more than 100 employees has a legal obligation to comply with the US Government’s Equal Employment Opportunity Policy. The purpose of the policy is to achieve equity in the workplace so that nobody is denied employment, or opportunity, for reasons unrelated to aptitude.

Employment equity is a matter of dignity

Employment equity offers everyone an opportunity to work and contribute equally to society. At the same time, employers benefit from a diversified, and competent workforce. This encourages the development of a company culture that boasts collaboration and inclusivity overall.

Requirements

As previously stated, any private employer with 100 or more employees, or a federal government contractor with at least 50 employees, is required to complete an Employer Information Report. This too applies to any contractor with the federal government with a contract of $50,000 or more.

EEO-1, is due no later than Friday, May 31, 2019. The portal for filing is open.  This is component 1 data of a 2 component process.

Requirements for the EEO-1 were expanded earlier this year to include more than demographic information about your workforce. By September 30, 2019, you will need to provide the total hours each employee has worked as well as payment information like wages earned, broken down by gender and ethnicity.

The portal for filing the Component 2 Data will not be open until mid-July, 2019.

In the meantime, it is our suggestion to reach out to your HR solutions provider to determine how the hours worked and pay data will be reported.  That way if there are any adjustments you may need to make to proceed with your submission can be handled ahead of the Component 2 Data deadline.
