HR Technology Trends for 2020

2020 continues to provide changes in the way we buy and use technology to enable HR. Organizations are looking for solutions to engage and retain talent, as well as provide analytics to drive HR and Business Results.

With more employees working remotely because of the coronavirus pandemic, technology has become increasingly important to support operational efficiency across all areas of the organization.

There are several notable HR tech trends over the last year , including:

  • increased use of artificial intelligence in hiring and recruiting
  • growth of employee tools for financial wellness, physical and mental health
  • increased automation

AI (Artificial Intelligence) is collecting and analyzing data. AI helps to drive improvements so companies can interact with employees and support them more effectively. To put it simply, the technology automates HR tasks via employee experience platforms to drive improvements to functions and/or processes which can be used to support employee engagement and provide the types of data/insights business leaders need to make timely decisions.

AI is also changing how companies find, hire, and retain talent.

Here are just a few of the ways Artificial Intelligence can be used to support recruitment:

  • Creating clear job descriptions,
  • Resume filtering,
  • Structuring and scheduling Interviews,
  • Chatbots to boost candidate engagement,
  • Use of algorithms and analysis can be leveraged to recommend steps to successful recruitment & provide opportunities for optimization to the recruitment process based on candidate feedback.

HR is playing a vital role in empowering employee experiences & workplace culture.

Trust and empowerment are crucial factors for exceptional employee experiences. To support healthy environments, we are seeing HR departments focusing on supporting and building more robust intranet-based interaction systems and creating forums to engage employees via internal social platforms.

Focus is also being placed on enhancing employee access to physical, mental and financial health resources.

The last year has created many challenges for employees in and out of the workplace and employers are rising to meet the needs.

Employee wellbeing is linked to employee engagement and productivity.

Helping employees improve their mental health could be one of the most important steps an employer can take by promoting a work/life balance, discussing mental health in the workplace, offering free screening tools. In addition in light of Covid-19, more employers are adding virtual care benefits for healthcare screening/support to existing benefits packages to help employees and their families save time accessing healthcare support time effectively.

Financial wellness programs, help employees reduce stress and approach short and long-term financial planning needs reducing stress.

Lastly, we are continuing to see research organizations and private companies continue to investigate the impact of automation on the workplace in areas such as workplace design, meetings, facilities management, hiring, customer and employee support.  There is no argument that automation will define the future of work.
